WHY WE BLEEP 013: AMOS GAYNES - MOOG MUSIC INC
Today we meet mighty Moog Music Inc's Product Design Engineer Amos Gaynes. Amos will be known to some of you who frequent the YouTube space as he moonlights as a technical demo person for Moog on occasions - and I think fair to say, is much loved in that capacity.
This is probably because he obviously knows the machines back to front - after all, he was hired by Bob Moog himself, has been with the company for nearly 20 years and co-INVENTED many of their products. But deeper than that, Amos just has this wonderfully sharp and lucid way of approaching and talking about things, and he's a musician himself.
And in this, we talk about the Gaynes' family friend, who Amos knew when he was only 8 years old, a kindly man called Bob Moog. We talk about how Amos trained as a robot designer and how he finally got his big break at Moog, and we talk about how the present-day Moog invent, develop and keep products on course, what it's like to work there, and the story behind two key products in recent years - the Subsequent 37 and Moog One dreamsynth.
